How to fill RAP4 CO2 tanks.
« on: September 29, 2004, 01:00:35 PM »
One thing to keep in mind is refilling a RAP4 tank is the same as filling a standard CO2 tank with a smart valve. If your local store is unable to fill a RAP4 tank, have them contact us by calling 408-727-3144. We're more than happy to help.

1. open empty RAP4 tank valve 4 complete turns - located at bottom of the tank
2. connect to fill station
3. open fill station valve
4. close RAP4 tank valve - located at bottom of the tank
5. close fill station valve
6. remove RAP4 tank from fill station
7. ready for use

I get a better fill if I wait 2-5 minutes beteen steps 3 and 4.

Others have noticed chilling the cylinders also seems to help.
makes sense when you consider Charles laws for ideal gasses.

(P1*V1)/T1 =(P2*V2)/T2

If the rap4 tank is frozen (0c, 32F,273kelvin), then pressurized to 900PSI, then allowed to warm to room temperature(294kelvin).

(900psi *12 in3)/273k = (p2PSI*12in3)/294k
p2 = (900psi *294)/273k
p2 about 970psi

High everyone.  I'm new here.  Don't own a RAP yet...but in the market for one for me and my son.

I use to fill SF-6 (sulfur hexaflouride) tanks with 40lbs of gas.  These suckers weigh around 104lbs when they are full.  Our old method for filling the bottles did involve putting them in the freezer overnight.  You get a better fill that way.  Now though, we have a gas transfer pump....works really good.

Yea you need compressed gas to cycle the transfer pump.  We have one built in to the servicing room we use.  The transfer pump is pretty loud when your supply bottle is full...goes really fast.  When it gets low it's a bit of a pain....seems like it takes forever.  We put the bottles on a digital scale.  Take the tare weight of the bottle + 40lbs...and walla  usually around 104-106lbs.

I just visited APSRAM in Hong Kong and met the owner. I was there to replace my newly bought co2 tank cause it leaks. Owner was very friendly, he let me tried the new SIG226, was told it should be ready later. Gun feels solid compare to the P99 which he also let me tried. The numbers stamped on the top brass fitting is the weight after filling it. 45g tank should weight 510g when filled, 60g tank weight 535g, and 200g tank weight 765g.
He knew about the airsoft conversion kit, I mentioned that it is way too powerful to do wargame with it (my M4 and AK are HK version, 1.99j max.) The HK version will shot through pig skin ! He tried that using pork bought from supper market. I believed him alright.

So open the valve, connect it to the fill station, let it fill, then close the valve on the tank?

About 15 seconds tops,if you don't have a siphon tube, hold your supply tank upside down
and above the empty tank to transfer the liquid not the gas. 8)

Yeah it seems to help if the tank is upside down. I recall seeing a video from APS where they had their tank upside down.

Chilling the cylinders helps big time.

Interesting.......I think I'll keep them in the cooler with the sodas/water next time I go.

Leave a little Co2 in the tanks so water can't get in.
